832 Lofts
832 Lofts is a historic renovation of a multi-family apartment building located in the South Market District of New Orleans.
Project Size: 4,011 SF
Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Originally built in the mid-1800s, the property had sat vacant for the last 50 years. Due to its location in a historic district of New Orleans, a historic renovation took place in order to preserve the original architectural details. On the exterior, the original wood shutters and windows were repaired to working order. A new front door and color scheme create a welcoming look from the street. In the first floor apartment, the original 10’ tall pocket doors were restored and maintained to create the division of space between the living area and the bedroom. A reclaimed fireplace mantel was added to accent the original fireplace which had been filled by a previous owner. On the second floor, all three pocket windows were restored allowing access to the balcony overlooking the street and downtown New Orleans. The rear service building was completely gutted and was expanded to create a larger living space. A new spiral staircase was added to the compact apartment in order to fully utilize the space.
